All visitors are welcome. Everyone can access the Catalog as a Guest, you can go directly to the Display Tokens page. If you collect tokens and like what you see, please register. Registration allows me to know how many different people are using my website and allows you to make contributions to my database. If you want to help with this project, have questions or comments, I would love to hear from you. I need images of any token missing from the catalog. Contributions from all states are welcome. Together we can make an awesome catalog. Thanks for taking a look, Richard

Current Status:
July 4, 2008 - Bitmap (.bmp) image files can now be directly handled. They no longer need to be converted to jpeg before loading onto the website. Users can now update their personal information with Edit User Profile under Additional Info in the main menu. Let me know if there are any problems.
June 5, 2008 - Hank Thoele has provided the listings from his Unlisted Wisconsin Tokens (The Unpublished Wisconsin Ten Year Update). These listings have now been loaded into the database. Thank You Hank! The maverick tokens he listed as being probable Wisconsin, but without town attributions were loaded as Unknown, with the note "'Suspected Wisconsin Maverick, town unknown", the can be found by using "Search State" or "Search All" for this string.
June 2, 2008 - I have changed how the obverse and reverse token descriptions are displayed. The obverse will now appear in all capital letters and the reverse will be displayed with only the first character of each word capitalized. The maker's mark, when present, will now be displayed in a smaller size font. I would be interested in users feedback as to how you like these changes. Please let me know if you see any make'rs marks which I have missed.
June 1, 2008 - There are two upcoming token token shows and auctions I wanted to share with everyone. The first is being put on by NWTAMS in Vancouver Washington over the July 12-13 weekend. For details and a complete auction listing, please visit www.nwtams.org. The second show is being put on by NTCA in Omaha Nebraska over Labor Day Weekend, August 30-31. For details, please visit www.tokencollectors.org.
April 8, 2008 - My website hosting service, 1and1.com, changed their server configuration last night. This change resulted in my website no longer functioning correctly. After 5 calls to 'technical' support, the problem appears to be corrected. There has been no explanation of what the original problem was, just various claims about how to fix it and suggestions that I must have changed something on my side to break it. My apologies for the downtime and inconvience. Another repeat of the March 5-6 problems, but this time they were unannounced.
April 4, 2008 - Two new Search buttons have been added to the Display Tokens page. SearchState, will search all the listings for the current state, regardless as to what City has been selected. The new SearchAll button, will search the entire database, ignoring the selected City and State. The normal Search, only looks at the obverse/reverse descriptions. These two new searches will include searching all the notes associated with the listings.
March 6, 2008 - The hosting server problems which started yesterday have been resolved. On March 5th, they performed a system upgrade and during the process changed the configuration of the database server. This caused queries which returned large results to fail. It took 5 calls to Techinical Support before finally someone was able to find and fix the problem.
March 4, 2008 - I have made a change which might result in registered users being automatically logged in. If this turns out to be a problem, please send e-mail and let me know.
February 13, 2008 - Oregon State listings have been completed. Listings from Hemphill's book, Mike Gross's Supplement, and all unlisted tokens known to me have been included (and corrected). There are more than 13,000 Oregon listings with almost 2000 unlisted. Yea! This project is finally complete. If you are aware of any other unlisted tokens, or see anything which needs correction, please send e-mail.
January 28, 2008 - Washington State listings from Al Erickson's catalog have are now available online. Thank you Al for providing access to this information. There are now almost 16,000 Washington listings. Only imaged listings are displayed by default (the un-imaged listings have not been properly sorted). If you are looking for something, just search. If you want to see everything, enter a single space as your search string. If you see errors or omissions, please let me know.
January 12, 2008 - I have hidden all images which came from Ebay that we don't have the owners permission to use. The image are still maintained internally to provide validation of the text listings. The original poster still has access to the images, but they are no longer shared with others. I am working to document the ebay sellers which have given their permission to use their images and a way to specify the ebay seller when the image is uploaded. More to come... Comments/questions are welcome - Richard
January 11, 2008 - It has been brought to my attention that posting images from Ebay on this website probably violates the copyright of the person who made the image. I am trying to figure out what policy makes sense and what to do with the images already loaded. Please say tuned. Please only post images which you have permission to use. Everyone I have asked about using their images from Ebay has agreed.
December 26, 2007 - A year ago, I was busy scanning my Oregon collection. Since then, contributions by others have doubled the number of imaged tokens. We are approaching 15,000 tokens from all 50 states. About 1000 new tokens are added every month! I am looking forward to 2008. I am excited about what this website has and can become. I am working to complete the Oregon listings. Billy Kiser has provided images and listings from his New Mexico catalog. I am working to provide access to other catalogs.
If you are interested in working on this project, please let me know. Are you are a cataloger? Do you want to become one? Do you want to keep track of your collection? I'm looking for help. Can you help build the listings for a particular state or specialty area? Do you have listings you can share? This tool is available for anyone who wants to help.
Thank you again to all the contributors and those who have registered. Comments and suggestions are always welcome.
November 12, 2007 - Oklahoma has made it to the front page! Michigan continues to grow at an incredible rate. There have been some nice additions to Hawaii. I have photographed all my Oregon transportation tokens and Masonic pennies. I have added complete (as far as I know) listings for all Oregon towns from A through L. If it looks like a token, and it's not included, please let me know. There are now more than 50 registered users and there have been contributions from about half of you!
November 1, 2007 - I have released software which will assign a Certainty of Attribution number for all tokens being added to the database. I have been using this for Oregon and New Mexico tokens, and now have expanded it to the rest of the database. If both city and state appear on the token, CA will be set to 5, otherwise, CA will be set to 1. If you don't want to see this information on you listings, use the Preferences option on the Display Tokens screen and uncheck the box - "Show Attribution Info". If you have questions, or would like to work on attributing and assigning CA values other then the defaults, let me know.
October 11, 2007 - Billy Kiser has provided his collection of New Mexico token images. Take a walk through New Mexico's listings and checkout all the cool tokens.
September 22, 2007 - 10, 000 token images posted! Thanks to everyone who has contributed.
September 16, 2007 - This site has just been moved onto a commercial server. You can access the site directly at tokencatalog.com Please let me know if you notice anything different. Hopefully you will only see an improved response. You may notice some missing images as I synchronize the databases. It has taken me several days of uploads to get the obverse images.
September 8, 2007 - I have released a new version of software with some new features. If you are adding tokens, these changes effect you. IF YOU SEE STRANGE BEHAVIOR, PLEASE SEND E-MAIL to rgreever@hotmail.com.
The Display Notes default has been changed to TRUE. This will cause the notes to be displayed on the main listing pages. If you don't like this, let me know. You can change your preferences by going to the Display Tokens page and select the Preferences button. On the Preferences page, unselect the Use System Default button and then unselect the Display Notes button. You can then Apply and Display button to display without notes. Registered users can save their preferences and make them their personal default.
The Notes which can be specified when a token is Added or Edited have been changed. There are now three types of notes.
Attribution Notes - Notes related to directory listings should be placed here. These are associated with the State/Town which you specified for the token. Be aware the same token may be attributed to another location. Each location will have an Attribution Note associated with it. Hopefully this will allow confilicting information to be identified and addressed. These notes can be edited with Edit Description.
Description Notes - Notes relating the descriptive information. This is basically the type of note which has always existed. These notes can be edited with Edit Description
Inventory Notes - These are notes which apply to the specific Inventory record/image. These can be marked Public or Private. Private notes are only viewable to the author and myself. Public notes are viewable by everyone. These notes can be edited with Edit Inventory.
Generic support for Catalogs has been added. When a token is Added, or a description Edited, catalog entries can be specified. If you are using a state catalog which isn't listed, please send me e-mail (tell me the catalog name, author, publication date, whether the catalog uses numbers and a "short name" for the catalog). I can add any catalog to my table. If catalog entries are added for all listed tokens in a state, I can set a flag which will identifiy the unlisted ones as "Unlisted" in the displays. The catalogs displayed on the Contribute screen are based on the State you last viewed with Display Tokens. If you specify a different state on the Contribute, you will need to Edit Description to get the appropriate catalogs. The Edit screen also allows you to view and specify any of the Catalogs.
Display of Multiple Images from the database is now provided on the Detail Screen. In the past, only the first image added to the database was viewable. This will remain the primary image, but if others exist in the database, they will also be displayed on the detail screen. For an example look here.
Support for Pricing information has been added. Prices for individual inventory records (the images) can be added, or generic prices associated with the listing can be added. Price fields now appear on the Contribute and Edit Inventory screens - these are prices for the token being displayed. Pricing information for a different token, but the same type can be added by using the "Add Price" button on the Detail Display screen. This is where e-bay and other price records can be aded. Pricing details can be Public or Private. Public data is displayed at the bottom of the Detail Display screen. Private data is viewable only to the contributor and myself. There is a "Value" field below the Prices. This is a work in progress, but right now will display the average of all prices entered for the specific token (public and private prices).
Support for multiple collections for a single user. This is something which has internally been supported from the beginning, but has now been made available to everyone. I use this for my personal collection, and the tokens I add for others. I need to be able to keep track of what is mine and what's not. You can too. If you want to have another collection created for you, let me know your username, the name of the new collection, and whether a credit line should be displayed under your contributed images. If this feature becomes popular, the commands to add/modify your own collection information will be added. When you add/edit a token, you will see your collection in a pulldown box. This is where you would select other collections if you had them defined. It is possible to move Inventory records between collections.
September 4, 2007 - This morning I restored the database from an August 28th backup. I have recovered the contributions made since then. Please verify your recent additions. I will work on reducing the amount of data which is lost when there is a failure. It should have been only a 24 hour window.
September 3, 2007 - My website was down for a couple days - my apologies. Something hung on my server and I am trying to isolate the problem. I attended the NTCA National Token and Medal Show in Omaha over the past weekend. I found some nice additions for my collection and will be loading them over the next couple of days. In addition, I met a lot of great people from across the country. It was definitely a worthwhile experience. It will be held again next year, over Labor Day weekend in Omaha. I was elected to the NTCA board and Ron Mui will continue as President.
July 31, 2007 - There have been some significant contributions this month from Hawaii, Michigan and Wyoming. Oregon and Washington counts continue to grow. Thanks for everyone's contributions.
July 4, 2007 - I have figured out who/what hacked my web site. The internet search engines have programs (web crawlers) to search the web and index its contents. The Yahoo Slurp web crawler accessed my site on June 23. It requested my directory structure and my server provided this information. Yahoo Slurp then proceeded to walk through my directories to discover what was there. Unfortunately when it 'looked' at my files, it executed them. This resulted in my scripts for deleting and re-creating my database being inadvertently executed. There are mechanisms to block this from occurring, which have now been implemented. I don't think Yahoo Slurp behaves in a friendly manner. All other search engines have limited their traversing of my site to those links which are available through the user interface, thus did not try to access these restricted scripts.
June 25, 2007 - My web site was hacked on June 23. Someone gained access to and executed the administrative commands to delete portions of my database. I have restored the database back to the my last backup, which was June 6th. The scripts to delete my database have been removed from the server - I should not have left them on the server after my initial development. If your registration was lost (you registered between June 6th and 25th), please re-register. All images have been restored. Your registration information was accessed by whoever hacked my system. I apologize for this breach of security.
June 15, 2007 - I believe everything has been recovered from the June 6 disk crash. I am running on a new server. I will try to implement a more robust/easier backup scheme in the future. Thanks for your patience. Please let me know if you find something missing.
May 20, 2007 - There are more than 6500 Oregon tokens and 7200 overall. Thanks for all who have contributed! Neil McElroy has allowed me to load images of his Oregon token dies. There is a die for an unlisted Burns, Oregon token. Does anyone have the matching token?
March 30, 2007 - I've been working on improving the Display Tokens page. Just make a selection and the results will be displayed. There is no more GO button. There is now a Preferences button which will allow you do narrow your selections to specific types of tokens to either omit or include. If I have lost a feature or something doesn't work, just let me know.
Wally Stier has been adding Washington tokens. Most are from Snohomish County, but there are 81 unlisted tokens and 68 saloon tokens from around Washington state. THANKS WALLY!
March 12, 2007 - County information has been loaded for Oregon and Washington. Thanks to Wally Stier for entering the Washington information. 1902, 1915 and 1916 Polk Portland City Directories have been imaged and are available online. See Additional Info - Resources .
February 25 , 2007 - I have finished scanning my collection. YEA! More than 6000 tokens over a 5 month period. I have some cleanup work to do, but it feels great to be done. I hope you all enjoy.
How You Can Help - Use the RptErr button if you see something wrong with a description. If you have tokens which aren't listed, please consider providing an image for the database. Tell me how I can make this database more useful to you.
My goal is to create an online public catalog of all Oregon Trade Tokens. I have scanned my collection of over 6000 tokens into a database. The first records were added to the database on September 2, 2006. These images and those contributed by others form the online catalog.
I have been collecting all my life, but only discovered trade tokens in the past few years. When I first started looking at tokens, I wondered how old they were, who used them and where they were made. When I read the reference material, I wonder how they figured stuff out. I hope to grow this web site into a place where this information can be collected and shared. I would like to document the attribution of these tokens. This is a discovery process for me and I want the results of that process to be available to others if they are interested.
I am trying to create the tool I wish was already available for me to use. It has been designed to support multiple collections, multiple states and multiple users. Individuals can see their specific collections and a unified public catalog is presented.
I am interested in purchasing or trading for Oregon tokens missing from my collection. If you are interested, please register and send me an e-mail. Registered users can display both the Public Catalog and My Collection. My Collection shows what I have, and which ones I have duplicates to trade. I do not have any tokens For Sale at this time, but am very interested in trading. I am actively building my collection..
I have lots of ideas for cool features, but right now I am focusing on keeping track of my collection and providing a public catalog of Oregon tokens. I want to share information on tokens.
